Research conducted by the Australian government into recruitment and skills shortages shows the resource sector filled just over half of its vacancies in 2011. Recruitment was most difficult in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory, where employers filled less than 60 per cent of vacancies.

We were back on familiar territory this week for anyone interested in oil and gas jobs or jobs in mining. The skill shortage is beginning to pinch. Jobseekers struggle to break into mining but apparently no one is willing to move to remote locations to get the jobs. Reports of new mines bringing in skilled migrants got everyone talking (and a little worried). One thing everyone agreed on is the resources boom is here for stay and it’s having positive effects on the whole country.
