A new report from the Australian Industry Group found employers are experiencing difficulty finding employees with the appropriate skills. The Lifting our Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills report surveyed 500 businesses in across multiple sectors of the economy and found sobering evidence to suggest Australia will fall behind competitively because we won’t be able to meet production and innovation requirements.

A new program announced by the Australian government last week is designed to help construction and building apprentices complete their training and enter the workforce. The Construction Apprenticeship Mentoring Scheme (CAMS) is a joint project between the government and the Master Builders Association and is part of a national focus on providing support for industry employees.

AWRA launched a new e-mentoring program in Australia this week to support the career development of women working in the resources industry. Supported by the National Resources Sector Workforce Strategy, the online mentoring program is available to women in the early stages of their careers. Employees in the all sectors of the resources industry are encouraged to participate including those in oil and gas, energy, allied construction and mining jobs.

Job scams are rife in the resources industry with new varieties cropping up every day. Just before the Christmas break, we discovered an outfit attempting to run a job scam on the Mining Oil and Gas Jobs site. We immediately removed all the jobs attached to the scam and notified jobseekers who had applied for these jobs. We also got an inside look into how a job scam is run and the warning signs for jobseekers.
