APPEA Oil and Gas Scholarship Winner Reflects on Winning Prestigious Award

You may have read in this blog that the
2012 APPEA Oil and Gas Industry Scholarship has been announced. When Roma Sharp, Senior Policy Advisor - Productivity & Training at
APPEA, told us about inaugural scholarship winner, Elvis Nguyen from the University of Adelaide, we wanted to share his story with you. It didn’t take much to convince Elvis to tell us about the benefits of winning this prestigious award. Remember, applications must be received on or before Friday, 27th April 2012 so don’t delay. Having heard about the APPEA Oil and Gas Engineering Scholarship through my University I thought it would be a good opportunity to apply and get one foot into the industry. This scholarship was appealing to me as there was an opportunity for summer vacation employment with an oil and gas major.
The scholarship also included the opportunity and possibility for a visit to areas of specific interest to the scholarship recipient. This experience proved valuable as I was able to get up close to production equipment and facilities and it allowed me to make a connection between what was learnt at university to what I was seeing.
What proved priceless was the opportunity to meet people from the oil and gas industry at the scholarship presentation. This occasion allowed me to form connections early on in my career and will somewhat prove valuable later on.
With this I would definitely recommend students apply for this scholarship.
